RODEO Partners

The consortium consists in five partners: three industrial companies (PRECISE as orbital drilling solutions provider; KUKA as robotic integrator; and MITIS as expert in drilling technologies and processes) and two research labs, respectively parts of Université Toulouse 3 Paul Sabatier and of Université de Nantes.

PRECISE France

Precise France is an expert company for orbital drilling process. Precise France is the company that has fully developed the small orbital head PKS 4015. The orbital head PKS 4015 was winner of the trophy for innovation at the Paris exhibition industry 2016. Precise France is also the company that has fully developed the small orbital effector “Robital Light Effector”.

Precise France has over 30 years experience in manufacturing orbital head and in the orbital process for aerospace industry. Precise France is a family company recently intregrated in the small PRACARTIS group.

KUKA Systems Aerospace

KUKA is one of the world’s largest suppliers of automation systems. KUKA has acquired Alema Automation in 2014, to create KUKA Sytems Aerospace France, an industry expert in specialized applications in the field of automated drilling and riveting of aircraft components. KUKA Systems Aerospace France SA is located near Bordeaux, and is involved in clusters : « aerospace valley » and « Alpha : La Route des Lasers ».

Our main product is a multifunction end effector, and we permanently develop new functions and enhanced reliability. In parallel, we started in 2015 our development on Light weight robot using the support of KUKA group. The LBR IIWA is a new way of thinking the factories. In the context of the RODEO project, the light orbital end effector is supposed to be implemented on this kind of robot.

MITIS

MITIS is a French Company, which is pioneer and leader in designing and implementing Vibration Assisted Holemaking industrial solutions. The MITIS technology is integrated into tool-holders or spindles. A low frequency axial cutter oscillation is generated that provides for perfect chip removal. MITIS systems are efficient solutions for drilling and countersinking complex configurations (multi-material stacks, difficult to cut materials, deep holes, etc.)

In the frame of the RODEO project, Mitis will bring its capacity for developing complete data acquisition chains to feed and process databases and its machining expertise to determine cutting conditions.

University « Paul Sabatier » Toulouse III

Since its creation in 1969, the Université Paul Sabatier – Toulouse III (UT3PS) has been expanding its offer of multidisciplinary education in the fields of science, health, engineering, technology and sports, developing one of the most important scientific research clusters in France. Centred on Toulouse, European space and aeronautics capital, UT3PS is a renowned European university with a global outlook. With almost 29 000 registered students, UT3PS is one of the leading French universities, in the quality of its teaching, the breadth of its scientific research and the number of students it attracts.

ICA (Institut Clément Ader)

ICA (UMR CNRS 5312 – http://www.institut-clement-ader.org) is a research laboratory, part of UT3PS, that focuses on the study of structures, systems and mechanical processes. Our research activities are intimately linked to those in the engineering industry. A special attention is paid to projects in the fields of aeronautics, space, transportation and energy. Our work focuses generally on behavior modeling, instrumentation and study of the durability of structures or products. ICA comprises researchers from 4 different institutions : Université Paul Sabatier – Toulouse III (UT3PS), Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Toulouse (INSA), Institut Supérieur de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace (ISAE) and Ecole des Mines Albi-Carmaux (EMAC).

Within the laboratory, the team Multi-Material Machining supervised by Dr. Yann LANDON, is especially dedicated to the study of drilling processes, through numerical and experimental approaches, and to drilling quality characterization and material integrity. Dr. Johanna SENATORE is a member of this team. Pr. Alain DAIDIE supervises the team Multi-Material Assembly, and has close works with Dr. Yann LANDON.

University of Nantes

Université de Nantes offers programs in most fields of knowledge and academic paths giving access to the majority of degrees in higher education, in short or long programs : Life sciences, Health and Medical technology, Exact Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Economics and Management, Legal and Political Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Letters, Languages and Art. Research is a major growth sector for Université de Nantes, with 75 accredited laboratories. As an innovative force, the University has research agreements with industry and shares its discoveries with the society at large.

LS2N (Laboratoire des Sciences du Numérique de Nantes)

The Nantes Numerical Sciences Laboratory (LS2N) is a new Joint Research Unit (UMR 6004) created in January 2017, resulting from the merger of UMR IRCCyN (UMR 6597: Nantes Institute for Research in Communications and Cybernetics), and LINA (UMR 6241: Nantes Atlantique Computer Science Laboratory). Bringing together 450 people at the heart of digital sciences, this laboratory aims to significantly increase the visibility of research in Cybernetics and Computer Science in Nantes.

A  first  research  team  involved  in  the  RODEO project  is  the  MO2P  team  (Modeling  and Optimization  of  Production  Processes).  The  team  works  both  on  additive  and  subtractive manufacturing ( trimming, drilling) process, combining technological simulations and experiments on machines-tools. The team is notably working on High Speed Machining, multiple material drilling ( CFRP, aluminium…)  and its monitoring. A second research team involved in the RODEO project is the ROBOTIQUE team. This research group combines skills in robotics and in manufacturing processes (essentially machining, drilling and sanding).
